About
When I moved to Texas in May 1994, one of the first things I did was order a Texas Travel Guide so that I could learn about my new home. After pouring through page after page, I commented to my husband that the geography varied so much in his home state that a person could spend a lifetime vacationing in Texas and always explore somewhere new!
In the Beginning
When my youngest son (aka The Manling) graduated high school in 2018, his Dad (aka The Man) and I agreed with him that a GAP year would be good after such a stressful senior year, one which included achieving Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America. Since his love of the great outdoors prompted our entire family to get into what we call Adventuring, we gave him a one-year pass to the Texas State Parks to enjoy during that GAP year. Within days, Texans Travel was born.
Fast-Forward
Over the summer following The Manling’s graduation, we visited 56 out of the (then) 99 Texas State Parks, with awesome adventures to share from each one of them. As summer ended, The Manling decided to forego the GAP year and began college immediately. He soon got a job at a major outdoor retailer, and our Adventuring subsequently ground to a disappointing halt. #priorities #maturityforthemanling
The Adventure Continues
What began as my Adventure with The Manling – 99 Texas State Parks. 12 months. 1 Awesome Adventure! – is going to continue with The Man. I cannot quit this. There are adventures to be had in the Great State of Texas and I don’t want to miss a single one. But this time ’round, I’m expanding the parameters to include all of our Adventures, both inside and outside of the Texas State Parks.
Buckle up! We’re ready to ride.

Zaragosa Birthplace State Historic Site – Building
Goliad is a pretty history-rich place to visit. In and around this quaint little town lies a handful of locations to visit in order to enrich your knowledge of Texas history and Zaragosa’s Birthplace State Historic Site is one such place. The Man, The Manling, Kinder Frau, and I stepped back into Texas’ history when …

Lipantitlan State Historic Site
Remember the episode of Gilmore Girls when Luke was livid at a town hall meeting because the reenactors were going to stand outside in the snow all night reenacting the legendary Stars Hollow Battle? Taylor spearheaded the entire enactment because, well, he’s Taylor and Taylor has a hand in all things Stars Hollow. The reason …
Choke Canyon State Parks
Choke Canyon consists of two branches: South Shore (day-use only) and Calliham (full-service side of the park). We planned our visit as part of a Labor Day extended weekend trip since the area is nowhere near close to where we live in North Texas. We arrived midday. In August. It was a blistering 97 degrees …
